Tonight I went to the Moscow Ballet’s Russian Nutcracker performance at the Conexus Arts Centre. Four girls that I teach dance to were in the ballet and they did an amazing job! It was great to see them on stage performing with professional dancers. They represented Sheridance Studios very well and made all the teachers very proud! I think that this was probably a great motivator for them to want to become stronger dancers because they saw where dance can take them. I have heard the comment too many times “what can you do with dance” and many people do not consider it a sport. If people would actually try it before judging, then they could have the right to say that….but many people have never even tried dance and also believe that it is only for girls. Many boys are talented dancers and even stronger than the girls. Because boys bodies are shaped differently, they are able to jump higher and turn better than girls. Dance is an extreme cardio workout. I can run on the treadmill for half an hour and not be sweating half as much as I am in a half hour dance class! Dance uses every muscle in your body from your head to your toes. So I challenge anyone who says dance isn’t a sport to come try out a class and then see what they have to say!!!
Hi Amy, Its Maegan from Mr.Germanns class. That would be so cool to see the some of your students to dance in the Nut Craker. I know that in my old school we did the Nut Cracker Sweet. I personaly have never takin dance classes but i did go and watch them in Compition and it was amazing. That cahnged the way that I though about Dance. There were so many boys that were in it to and it was amazing to see the way that they would move. I bet that it woould be a really hard work out. But for me im into Softball and Hockey. I think that it would be cool to dance and so many people have told me that I would make a great dancer because im so tall, but i said that I would stick with my other sports. What ages do you teach dance to?
Hey Meagan, thanks for your comments! The youngest I teach are 2 and a half year olds which is a basic introduction to dance and they are the cutest and most fun to be with! The oldest I teach is about 14.
Awe that would be so cute. I know that I have a little sister and she i just learning how to do so much and I really cant wait until i get to teach her how to skate! So what style of dance do u teach?
I teach tap and jazz and a little bit of ballet to the beginners.
That would be so cute. I love working with little kids.
Hey Amy. This is Lauren. I am also from Mr. Germanns class. I am a dancer as well, and I know how hard it is. I definately agree that people who think it isnt a sport should put on a pair of jazz shoes and attend our half an hour class. I am a jazz dancer and I used to be in Hip Hop, Tap and Adapt Exams too. I became too busy to take all of them, so I am now just in jazz. I absolutely love it. I would love to take a lyrical class too, but our dance school doesn’t offer it. Dance is a huge part of my life. For me, it is a great way to express yourself without even having to say anything. It feels so good to just be able to let go and forget about everything. I love going to dance competitions and getting on stage infront of everyone and performing. That is really impressive that some of your students were in the nutcracker production. I’m sure it was amazing. One day I would love to go watch a ballet. I bet you have a lot of fun teaching the younger kids dance. They are absolutely adorable in the recital here. I hope you have a great dance season this year!
